www.w3c.org — the web site of the World-Wide Web Consortium, the almost-standards organisation that has developed XML standards

www.xml.com — a commercial site that includes some XML tutorials (under "Essentials”) and links to lots of useful articles. You may need to "join” the site (though a lot of it is public) but there’s no cost involved
