The ability to use the Invoicer program for purchase invoices serves two distinct purposes.Firstly, you can use it record supplier invoices onto the purchase ledger and as a by-product of the process book into stock the goods received. In this case the purchase invoice definition would be linked both to the purchase ledger and to the stock file. You would not need to print a purchase invoice as such, although you might want to print a short audit trail of the purchase invoices you have entered.

Secondly, there is a requirement in some industries for "self-billing”. By this is meant that your company creates the invoices for goods taken from suppliers, giving them payment at the same time. This is found particularly in agriculture.

As with sales invoices, purchase invoices can be linked just to the purchase ledger (free-format), linked to both purchase ledger and stock control files or linked to the purchase ledger and a product file.

The process of entering purchase invoices is exactly the same as the process for entering sales invoices, and is fully described under Sales Invoices above. As with sales invoices, you may define up to six different purchase invoice layouts too.
