The Datafile SQL Driver is supplied either within a folder on a standard installation CD, or as a Web Download in its own right.
If supplied with a standard installation CD then a folder ‘SQL Driver’ contains the required installation files – run the SETUP.EXE from within this folder.
If supplied as a Web Download then run the downloaded SQLDriver.exe which will unpack the required installation files and then automatically run the SETUP.EXE.
The initial set-up procedure steps through several stages – some of which will be omitted depending on configuration. Follow the step-by-step guide below but first make sure that you are installing as a user with Administrator rights (XP / Vista terminals).
Step-by-Step Guide
Once the SETUP.EXE has been called a ‘splash’ screen will be displayed whilst the Installation procedure is configured. Once complete the main installation procedure begins:
Click Next to Continue
Choose Destination Location – the default folder for installation of the Datafile SQL Driver is ‘C:\DatafileSQL\’ you can change this location if you wish by selecting the BROWSE button otherwise select NEXT to continue.
If this terminal is not using the Datafile system, or the setup does not use a DFWIN.INI within the C:\WINDOWS\ folder, you are asked for the location of the DATAFILE.INI file. This file is usually held within the main Datafile folder on the server.Note that if a DFWIN.INI exists within the C:\WINDOWS\ folder but does not contain a valid path for the DATAFILE.INI you will still be prompted for this path and warned that you need to manually edit this file.
Please Enter Location of DATAFILE.INI – the default folder is set as F:\DFWIN\ if
this doesn’t match your location choose the BROWSE option to select an
alternate location. You will not be able
to proceed past this point until a valid location is selected.
Please
Enter Location of DIAMOND.D02– the DIAMOND.D02 is usually held within the DATA subfolder off the main
Datafile folder on the server. The
default folder is set as F:\DFWIN\DATA\ if this doesn’t match your location
choose the BROWSE option to select an alternate location. You will not be able to proceed past this
point.
Please
Enter Location of DIAMOND.D00 Security File - If the installation needs to install an updated security file –
DIAMOND.D00 – and the installation procedure cannot determine the location of
the existing file then you will be prompted for the location to install this
file. This file is usually held within
the main folder of the Datafile system on your server. Select BROWSE to set this location.
Once the required
pathnames have been set / confirmed the installation procedure begins to copy
on the files required for the Datafile SQL Driver.
The installation part of the set-up is
now complete. If you wish to run the SQL
Configuration now select FINISH, if wish to do run this later untick this
option prior to selecting the FINISH button.
The Installation process creates three icons on your Windows Desktop – Datafile SQL Configuration which allows you to configure the link between the Datafile system and the SQL database, Datafile SQL Monitor oversees the SQL Manager program in use and Datafile SQL Manager which, once configured, is the program that updates the SQL database tables. These options are also available within a new folder ‘Datafile SQL Driver’ off your Start Menu together with options to edit the SQL INI files for the more confident user.
