Output to Microsoft Excel 2007

Microsoft Excel 2003 has limits on the number of rows and columns that can be displayed within a spreadsheet which was increased for Excel 2007. By default when outputting to Excel from Datafile, either via reporting options or the database output tool, the system applies the Excel 2003 limitations for rows and columns.

A setting, previously advised, within the DATAFILE.INI of EXCELMODE=2007 removed the limit on the number of records/rows that could be output to Excel but the limit on the number of columns remained (at 255). From this update the column limit is also increased to 321 – the maximum number on a Datafile database including the record number – allowing full database output were required.

Installation

No specific changes, over and above the EXCELMODE=2007 setting, are required for output of the extra columns. Note that the DATAFILE.INI is a shared system file applying to all users thus where Excel 2003 and 2007 are both in use by users on the Datafile system you should comment out the EXCELMODE setting within the DATAFILE.INI and instead update this setting to the DFWIN.INI
