User Defined Reports – Rotate Print Items

User Defined Reports – Rotate Print Items

This new feature allows for print items on a (new-style) User-Defined Report to be rotated for printing.

Installation

This option is only applicable for new-style User-Defined Reports so if not already done so review the notes on this facility within the Release 5.8 Supplement.

Font Settings

When defining the fonts applicable for the report a new option has been added to allow a ‘Rotate Output’ setting. This can be set to 90, 180 or 270 degrees.

To apply the font to a particular section / item within a control block you right-click on the control block and choose Print Properties and define the font entry to use and the area it is to apply to.

Take care when positioning an item to be rotated. Position:-

Tips

When rotating an item 90/270 degrees set the font area to encompass the starting point of all data items / text labels to be rotated. You do not have to define the full area it is to be printed in.

Remember that the design interface doesn’t show the fonts applied. If rotating a block of items 90/270 degrees (say an address block) then on the design these items should all be positioned on the same line but each item should start 2/3 characters to the left of the previous item. When rotated each item will then be shown distinctly rather than overlapped (subject to font size).

When rotating an item 180 degrees set the font to be right-aligned otherwise data will be printed with ‘trailing’ spaces from the left.

 Note

Run-time Prints to Screen and Spooler will show a shaded block where the rotated data is to be displayed. Printouts from the screen/spooler will show the required text.
