Processing commands are a general facility offered for XML file design, and Datafile uses them for its own purposes, as described below. Processing commands start with "<?a…a” (opening angle bracket, question mark, plus the name of the command) and close with "?>” (question mark and a closing angle bracket). Processing commands are defined by an application designer, and can only be interpreted by the application that is designed to use them.
If an incoming XML file contains a processing command that is not recognised by the Datafile XML module, it is ignored. In particular, any processing command that has a name starting with "xml” is ignored by the Datafile XML processor on input, or is transferred to an output XML file intact. For example, the specific processing instruction <?xml version="1.0"?> is always present as the first statement in an XML file (though the version number may change in the future).
