If errors occur whilst parsing an input XML file, such errors will be recorded in the audit trail. However, it may not be obvious where, within the original XML file, an error has occurred — particularly if the XML file is of any size. To help diagnose such errors, a transaction definition option is offered to create separate error XML files.
Each error file is a copy of the original XML one, with the word error, a sequence number, and an explanation comprising an error, a brief reason, and what was found if appropriate. These match the errors printed in the XML audit trail. For example:
The first example refers to a missing line reference; the second to a missing order reference, and the third to there being no prime index for the file concerned. See Appendix 3 below for a list of the error codes. Use the Diagnostic XML File Print to create a report of the error file, or use Notepad or some other text processor on the file itself and look for occurrences of the word "error”.
