The amount of data held within the databases increases over time particularly on files such as your sales transaction or sales order files. As file sizes increase reports can take longer to run and give you the required information; depending on the reporting requirement reviewing the full history may not be necessary.
In a sales environment a common requirement is to show
the last five/ten sales taken as a motivational and information tool and you
would list this information from the sales transaction file. However, the sales transaction file can
include transactions and analysis for several years and, in this example, you
only need to review the last 200 or so transaction records to obtain this
information. This new feature allows you
to set a ‘Last Record’ counter so that only the last n records in the file are processed when running the report
potentially increasing the speed of the report dramatically.
Within the General Parameters of the User-Defined Report configuration a new parameter has been added to the ‘Slots’ facility to report on the last n (1-999) records.
